Rude
My wife had a minor injury and was told to try using crutches. She went into Hometown Medical Supply of Northampton on June 2, 2011, and purchased a pair of Guardian Aluminum Crutches for $45.99. It turned out that it was impractical for her to use the crutches. The crutches are a regularly stocked item that came off the shelf, not a special order.
I am a Registered Nurse with 28 years in the ER . I am an educated consumer. I also have a lot of experience with Home Care patients. I have used a few of the products from this business personally with my own spinal issues and surgery. This guy has been nothing but wonderful! He will open packages and let you try on various products and educates you on its use and even shows you various priced items. The person who gave poor reviews about this business being closed, well excuse me but hours are advertised and you can always call before you go. So you going twice? Hmmm..The refund and restocking complaint? Please, they are clearly stated and as you read, on your receipt! If every business gave 'exceptions' for every excuse...That is totally ridiculous; people think they are so entitled. You wouldn't believe what people use as excuses for their own lack of paying attention and their own responsibility. And ANY business is entitled to charge for their time to make their product 'presentable' and CLEAN to put back on a shelf. And your logic, if someone has taken a product home(to germs and possible use) esp. MEDICAL equipment in light of MRSA, etc.and shouldn't clean it (esp.when it has come out of a sealed packaging!! Yeah, that's sick logic. This business provides a very important LOCAL service. As far as not covered by insurance....You KNOW he told you that BEFORE YOU purchased the crutches!!
Unpleasant experience on several occasions and does not take insurance for needed devices.
Purchased a thumb brace and decided it wasn’t going to be right, returned it next day and was told NO REFUNDS only store credit. BUYER BEWARE!!!!
She tried to return the crutches on two occasions, but the store was closed. When she finally was able to go in on July 12, 2011, the store refused to accept the merchandise for return, even though the crutches were clearly unused and still had the original packaging attached. The store cited a sign, as well as the fine print on the bottom of her sales receipt, indicating that there would be no returns allowed after 7 days from the date of sale. (It also indicates that even returns made within 7 days are subject to a 10% "restocking" fee. This would be the charge to put the item back on the shelf.)
The store clerk will not tell you in advance.
A merchant has a right to dictate restrictive return and refund policies; however, there are times when flexibility is in order and simply makes common sense. Fortunately, consumers have the power to choose which businesses to patronize and where to spend their dollars. Based upon our singular experience with Hometown Medical Supply of Northampton, I would warn fellow consumers away from doing business with this company ... a company with unfriendly policies that strongly suggest that it should not be in business.
